STEAM&WATER ANALYZSIS SYSTEM (SWAS)

Steam and Water Analysis System (SWAS) is a system dedicated to the analysis of steam and water. In power stations, it is usually used to analyze boiler steam and water to ensure the water used to generate electricity is clean from impurities which can cause corrosion to any metallic surface, such as in boiler and turbine.

Water quality is a crucial factor for avoiding corrosion and scaling of turbines, boilers and pipes in power plants. Particles in the boiler feed water and steam shorten the lifetime of the turbines, leading to costly repairs or even replacement. Additionally, bad water quality leads to inefficient processes and increases maintenance efforts.

SWAS panels monitor the water quality in power plant and keep the integrity of the water steam circuit safe at all times. Critical parameters such as pH, conductivity or sodium are reliably measured to prevent the accumulation of precipitation in heat exchangers, boiler pipes and superheaters. As a result, you get increased process control, minimized downtime and longer operational life for plant.

In industrial plants such as fossil power, nuclear powe, HRSG, co-generation, auxiliary boiler unit etc., where cycling water is the process medium for producing electricity, steam, heat or combination of those, maintaining the quality of water as specified is critical task for guaranteeing the design life and performance of the plant.

Objective of Steam and Water Analysis System is to monitor the quality of sample steam and water that are transported to the system from various points of plant. samples brought to the system are conditioned first so that their pressure, temperature, flow rates etc, are agreeable with those required by th on-line analyzers installed in the system and also for manual sample taking.

Type of on-line analyses to be performed in the system depends on application and decision of plant design engineers. pH, Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen values are most frequently measured and silica, sodium and Fe ion concentrations are additionally monitored when needed.
